Quick note about a spam article added in this project

Hello! Hope you are having a great weekend. Sorry to bother you, but this is about this spam article カルビン・ロー which was recently created in this project.
A user which has been blocked on EN has been creating a recently deleted article on EN. This user (blocked on EN) has recreated the article across many wiki projects see Wikidata for full details. It was also created in: now deleted: ID, AR,FR, JA, KO, MS, TH, and many others. The same account has been proven to be a sockpuppet of Timlaieditor (see the group that was blocked on June 18). Thought you may want to know as UR, TH, and ID projects have already deleted the articles in their respective projects for spam/promotions. Hope you can help look into it. Thanks!

It also has copyright problems (translation without stating the source), but I deleted it as cross-wiki spam anyways.

Hi! Thank you for the help with the license update. I noticed that ファイル:Japan map.png and many other files use {{Japan map}}. According to Google Translation it seems like the file is licensed GFDL but for some reason it does not include the license template {{GFDL}}.

I can see that there have been a long discussion about the file and the license but Google Translate does not translate correct so sometimes it makes no sense to me.

The way I see it there are 2 options:

  1. The file is NOT licensed GFDL and the file does therefore not have a valid license. That means the file and all the 4,000 files that are made based on the file should be deleted.
  2. The file IS licensed GFDL and the file does therefore have a valid license. We should add a formal license tak and we just have to find out if the file has disclaimers or not. I see no disclaimers mentioned so I would choose {{GFDL}} and not {{GFDL-ja}}.

Perhaps you can have a look and help translate or just give me the conclusion :-)

I have made room on Commons so ファイル:Japan map.png can be moved to c:File:Japan map.png. There is a redirect there atm. but that can be deleted. But I will not move the file unless I'm sure it has a valid license.

I do not have a clear answer - let me confirm in Wikipedia:利用案内 and get back.
Thank you!

Great! The map is now licensed GFDL and Cc-by-sa-3.0 :-)

I moved the file to Commons. Perhaps you could help check if I arranged the information correct. You are welcome to translate important information to English.

Next question is what to do with all the files that are cropped/derivated from the file (files with {{Japan map}}). Do we have to discuss them all one by one? Or could we assume that they are all GFDL? And what about license migration. Should we use the normal rule that if it is uploaded before August 2009 then it is eligible for license migration and if later then it depends...?

Reuse of derived files needs to fulfill licensing requirements of File:Japan map.png (the original file) and of the derived file. {{Japan map}} implies that changes in the derived file are licensed with GFDL (without specifying a version), but the uploader can specify more allowed license as they like (e.g. File:Aichi Kaito-gun.png also allows Cc-by-sa 1.0).
Therefore, to make everything clear, we should update {{Japan map}} so it includes the license details of File:Japan map.png (namely embedding GFDL and cc-by-sa-3.0 tags in the template). But I am not sure what is the best way to do that. This is similar for {{World map}}.
For license migration, applying the normal rule is fine.--ネイ会話2020年9月22日 (火) 15:47 (UTC)
About the extra licenses that the uploader add I think it will only apply for the changes made by the user. The original file will still be GFDL and cc-by-sa-3.0 like the original file.
I checked the files that use {{Japan map}} and it seems that 3284 files was uploaded before august 2009 so we can relicense all the GFDL-changes for them to cc-by-sa-3.0.
805 files was uploaded after august 2009 so the changes of them are perhaps GFDL only. I guess it depends on what uploader say and if the change is PD-ineligible. 750 of the files uploaded after 2009 is uploaded by User:検見川町 and user made the latest edit in june 2020 and if we ask we may be lucky that the user see it and will agree to Cc.by-sa-3.0 (perhaps send a mail). Then there will only be 55 files left to check manually.
I have not checked {{World map}} yes but I agree we should treat them the same way.
Worldmap: 403 files are uploaded before august 2009 and 4 files are uploaded after:
  1. File:LocMap_of_WH_panama_viejo.pngb.png
  2. File:LocMap_of_WH_James_Island_etc.png
  3. File:LocMap_of_WH_Kvarken.png
  4. File:WorldMap_Sawyers_Gully.png
So I think World map will not be a problem.
Thanks - another problem of these templates is they do not specify that new files cannot be uploaded with GFDL license only (forbidden as per Wikipedia:ライセンス更新, for > 10 years). Perhaps the templates should act as a license template and do something like this:
  1. Display the license details of the original file (GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0).
  2. If no parameters are specified, then state that the derived file is also licensed with GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0.
  3. License parameters can be specified in a similar format as {{Self}}.
  4. At the time when these changes are implemented, run a bot to edit existing files so they show the correct license (GFDL only, GFDL+migration, etc.).
Just a suggestion, not something too concrete at the time being though.--ネイ会話2020年9月22日 (火) 16:22 (UTC)
180px-Ibaraki-pref-Yuuki.png to make a suggestion on how it can be organized. If we do it like that then a bot can add the information.
I think perhaps the best is to make {{Japan map}} a source template that tell where the file is from and then add the licenses below. That would make it easy to move the files to Commons.
I agree that the template have to be changes so new uploads will be dual licensed like the Japanese license policy require.
Feel free to change the information on ファイル:180px-Ibaraki-pref-Yuuki.png if you have ideas to make it better.
I have moved ファイル:WorldMap ja.png to Commons with FileImporter to preserve the file history better. I think it could use a better source. I think it would be best to mention where the data for WorldMap is taken from if you can find that information somewhere.
Perhaps {{Japan map/Sandbox}} can be used. That will give the source, author and license.
Per Special:Permalink/244798, the source of WorldMap ja.png is UNEP GRID data GNV19.
I will check the sandbox later.--ネイ会話2020年9月23日 (水) 06:10 (UTC)
I have added the source to c:File:WorldMap_ja.png. I hope we can find a good solution with files sourced to the 2 maps so we can avoid having different licenses for the original work and the changes. It is much easier for everyone if there is only one set of licenses (GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0). If uploader added {{Copyrighted free use}} then I think its an indication that uploader does not claim any copyright of the changes so we can also remove that without problems and only use the standard (GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0). I was also thinking that if user added {{CC-BY-SA}} then perhaps we should remove that license to avoid confusion there is not much difference between CC-BY-SA and Cc-by-sa-3.0 so I think it is a good indication that uploader is okay with Cc-by-sa-3.0 for the changes.
Your point regarding {{Copyrighted free use}} looks fine; but I thought Cc-by-sa does not allow automatic license upgrades (correct me if I'm wrong).
Our changes on those templates cannot force file uploaders to change their license without their agreement, unless the change is not eligible for copyright. So I think the sandbox version (+Japanese translation) is the best we can do for now.--ネイ会話2020年9月26日 (土) 03:23 (UTC)
No you are right that Cc-by-sa does not allow automatic license upgrades. But I was thinking that the changes made is probably not eligible for copyright anyway so it would be less confusing for users of the files if there were not too many license templates.
Could you ask User:検見川町 about the 750 files? I think it would be an easy way to fix all those if we can get an approval of cc-by-sa-3.0 because then we do not have to check if the changes are PD-ineligible or not.
180px-Ibaraki-pref-Yuuki.png. Could you check and fix? When it is okay I can add that to all the old files.
I fixed it to show an example, then reverted the changes, and suggested in Template‐ノート:Japan map to copy from sandbox. Let's wait for a while and see how the discussion goes.--ネイ会話2020年9月26日 (土) 17:59 (UTC)
Also, do you have a list of the 750 files to ask for? It is not practical to ask the user to make 750 edits for this change, so it is better to show a list of files, or ask for all of their uploads in Category:Japan map, and we make the changes (manually or with a bot). Whichever you think is better.--ネイ会話2020年9月26日 (土) 18:12 (UTC)
Yes lets just ask first if someone have comments to the suggested change.
Here is the list of the 750 files. Yes we should fix with the bot. So a message somewhere that license is accepted is fine.
Once all the files are fixed there is the fun job of fixing files that have allready been copied to Commons. I have not checked how many that is.
About world map have you thought of that? It seems to be much easier because only 4 files are created after August 2009 and all changes looks PD-ineligible. Also 2 are made by Sumaru so we could ask for an accept of cc-by-sa-3.0 if you prefer.
Oooo great news. We have 804 files uploaded after august 2009 (not 805) and 750 is uploaded by one user. BigBang19 have uploaded 29 of the remaining 54 files and BigBang19 have allready accepted cc-by-sa-3.0. So there are only 25 files to check manually.
Sorry to spam you. LocMap of WH panama viejo.pngb.png. Since there are only 4 files to check I think we can make the template much simpler. Files made before August 2009 are GFDL+cc-by-sa-3.0 and so are the 4 files uploaded after (if you agree changes are PD-ineligible) and since all new files should also be GFDL+cc-by-sa-3.0 then I think we can just write that the license is GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0.
I do not know why we have {{世界遺産の地図}} instead of just adding {{World map}} directly.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I have created Template:World map/sandbox and it matcheces LocMap of WH panama viejo.pngb.png like Template:Japan map/sandbox matches 180px-Ibaraki-pref-Yuuki.png.

When you think we are ready I will start working on the files. I think to make it more clear why the files are licensed as they are then the steps could be like this:

  • I Add/fix the information template on ALL files and put the files in a category like Category:Japan map - check
  • I remove Category:Japan map - check if I can verify that the file and its changes are GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0 and I write the reason in the edit summary (for example file uploaded before August 1, 2009).
  • The files that remain in the check category have to be fixed manually.

I have been thinking about the additional licenses for any changes. I think it will be confusing if the original file is licensed GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0 and the changes are licensed GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0 + cc-by-sa. How are a reuser supposed to handle that? Therefor I think it would make it more simple if remove cc-by-sa if there is a cc-by-sa-3.0. If the changes are GFDL only then I think cc-by-sa should stay because then it may be useful.

I have updated {{Japan map}} and ファイル:180px-Ibaraki-pref-Yuuki.png. The file is from 2004 so both the original and the changes are GFDL + cc-by-sa-3.0 so there are no problems with that file. If the changes were GFDL only or if uploader had added another license then I think we would need to decide what to do. I see these options:
  1. We make a heading "License of changes" (or something like that) and add the relevant templates below that heading or
  2. We add a text in the permission files below {{Japan map}} saying "The changes are licensed GFDL only. If you are the copyright holder please remove this line if you accept cc-by-sa-3.0" or
  3. We do nothing. Whoever want to use the file have to read the text in {{Japan map}} and decide what the correct license is.
Perhaps you have a better idea?
Hello! Hokkaido bw.png is protected so I can't add {{information}} etc. can you have a look at it?
I have now added {{Information}} on all files with {{Japan map}} and {{World map}} and also added the license that apply for the source map if there were no license on the file.
It seems that many maps are not used. The question is if the file should be deleted or kept. If it is deleted there is no reason to spend time on finding out what to do with the license of the changes. If you think we should delete you are very welcome to nominate files for deletion. Perhaps make one big deletion request for all unused files and ask what other users think.
I made a notice at 利用者‐会話:検見川町#License_of_maps_based_on_File:Japan_map.png and if we get a good reply then there are not many files left to check manually. You are welcome to add a message in Japanese if you think it is better.
I unprotected File:Hokkaido bw.png. There does not seem to be a valid reason for protecting it in the first place.
Among the three choices, I prefer adding a "License of changes" heading if it is not too heavy burden to make the changes, as it is much clearer than doing nothing, and (2) will most likely result in no one removing the line. It is likely that the copyright holder never notices the change (and we do not want to bombard copyright holders with notifications).
Unless the unused maps are of very low quality, a big deletion request usually results in inclusionist users throwing in Keep votes. Since the bot for deleting files with WP:CSD#ファイル1-5 is going to be ready soon, I suggest simply moving them to Commons (a deletionist world) and let Commons users do their job.--ネイ会話2020年10月9日 (金) 16:27 (UTC)
Thank you! Okay I will see if it is possible to locate the files where the file and the changes have a different license. If 検見川町 answer it will be much easier because of the big amount of files.
About moving files to Commons and deleting them there it could be used as an argument for inclusionist users not to move files to Commons but to keep them locally. So I think we should not move bad files to Commons atm. Lets move the better files first and once we are running low on files we can move the less good files :-) --MGA73会話2020年10月9日 (金) 18:30 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I have now made 2 categories: Category:Japan map - 検見川町 and Category:Japan map - other for all the files that are uploaded after August 1, 2009. I have checked the files in Category:Japan map - other and I think that all files are licensed correctly now. But I asked some of the uploaders that are still active if they can confirm the license. I hope that 検見川町 will confirm the license so I do not have to check all files in Category:Japan map - 検見川町 manually. The files before August, 2009 Can all be licensed GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0. I'm trying to find out if there are any of them that have any other licenses and if they do I also check them.

I noticed that the bot does not delete files. Do you know why not? I thought it was approved.

600+ files left

Hi! I have been working on the files in Category:Wikipedia license migration candidates for some time and now only map files remain. I have been checking random files and to me it seems that the changes made are {{PD-ineligible}}. The files I found are licenses GFDL and Cc-by-sa-1.0.

The original map is GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0 and if the changes are PD-ineligible then I think the correct license for all the files is GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0.

I think it will be confusing if we add GFDL + Cc-by-sa-3.0 for the original and GFDL + Cc-by-sa-1.0 for the changes.

Perhaps you could check a few files and let me know what you think?

I think we can claim PD-ineligible for the changes. Since {{Japan map}} does not state whether the changes made are eligible for copyright (it only does "if eligible, then XXX; else YYY"), we better state PD-ineligible clearly for the changed parts. Or perhaps add a parameter to Japan map to state this.--ネイ会話2021年1月10日 (日) 03:32 (UTC)
Thank you. Perhaps change the wording in the template so the changes are PD-ineligible unless specificly noted by the uploader? I think in most cases the uploader did not intent to claim a specific copyright. They just needed to add a license because the copyright status was unclear at the time of the upload.
It is hard for us to be sure about the intentions without checking with the uploader so we better play safe - claiming PD-ineligible is easier than claiming PD-self.--ネイ会話2021年1月10日 (日) 14:57 (UTC)

You don't really need my permission - the bot account is blocked but you are not, so there should be no obstacles for you to start a thread in WP:B/R. Given past experience, a consensus might be required there before I can unblock the bot account for testing. Also please take note that WP:BOT is updated and the rate limit is changed from 6 edits per minute to 12 edits per minute.

Deleting files with a bot

Hi! Let me know if there is anything I can do to make it easier to delete files with a bot. I think the files in Category:コモンズへの移動により即時削除対象となったファイル are good but the files in Category:コモンズと重複しているメディア and Category:コモンズに同一・同名のものがあるメディア should be checked before they are moved. As you can see on this old list there are many files that have a different license on Commons than on ja.wiki. I fixed some but I think it would be good to do more checks.

Hi! I see that the bot has deleted some files but is adding files to Have you heard anything about that page? It seems human users need to delete those files.
The bot is in testing; 利用者:SeitenBot2/即時削除を見送ったファイル lists files that the bot checked and decided not to delete for various reasons. 2~6 are human errors (e.g. incorrect file name); 1=not using FileImporter; 7=possibly useful edits done locally after exporting to Commons.--ネイ会話2020年10月15日 (木) 17:09 (UTC)
Great! I thought it was approved and something made the bot crash all the time. Okay lets see what happens after the bot is approved to go in full operation.
Okay it is now approved and running. Now we just need admins to help delete the files on the list and I will try not to make edits that makes the files end on the list :-) --MGA73会話2020年10月23日 (金) 20:07 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Thank you for the comment on I think that files on Category:Files that needs a check because new version of file has been uploaded - NowCommons and Category:Files that needs a check because new version of file has been uploaded may be hard to delete with the bot. Either admins have to delete some files manually or bot should be allowed to delete more files.

Hi {{草花写真館}} is another template that needs to be checked.

  1. I changed {{GFDL}} to {{GFDL-ja}} when I moved the files around. Perhaps it should not have been changed?
  2. Next question is how we know that the files from that license is licensed GFDL. Is or was GFDL mentioned somewhere on the website?
  3. Many files do not link to a specific place on the website. So how do we know that the file was from that website?

Once we have found a solution for Japan map and World map we can find out what to do here. I just added it here not to forget it. All files but 4 are uploaded before November 2008 so they can be changed to cc-by-sa-3.0. 4 files needs to be checked manually.

  1. GFDL: I do not find it mentioned anywhere; its main page in Internet Archives mentions that 「写真はフリー素材として提供してますので、御自由にお使い下さい。」 ("Since I am providing the photos as free material, please feel free to use them."). Therefore {{GFDL}} is likely wrong and {{Copyrighted free use}} seems more suitable. However, I am not sure whether the single sentence in the site is sufficient to prove copyrighted free use.
  2. Confirming image source: It is very difficult now, since the site no longer exists. Some possible places to look for are Internet Archive and the author's Facebook account.--ネイ会話2020年9月23日 (水) 06:06 (UTC)
Thank you. Yes {{Copyrighted free use}} seems more suitable. If the website is down but the photographer is active on Facebook then I think it would be much easier to write to the photographer via Facebook and ask him to confirm that it is his photos and that he confirm that the photos can be used freely. The best is if he send a permission to c:Commons:OTRS. Do you know any Japanese speaking from OTRS?
Perhaps User:miya or User:whym (not pinging here - please ask directly through wikimail or at their talk pages). And if the author does not respond, then do the images need to be deleted?--ネイ会話2020年9月23日 (水) 08:11 (UTC)
I asked Miya. Thank you for the help. About deleting the photos I'm not sure. The text you mention is not very specific. But they are uploaded long ago and on Commons old files are sometimes kept even if they do not meet the standards we have today.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── It seems that no active user knows more about the permission. I asked ("Uncle Carl"?) on Facebook but have no reply so far. So my suggestion is that we fix the template the best way we can based on what we know now.

Commons have c:Template:Grandfathered old file and that says that if a file was uploaded before January 1, 2007 then we can accept it even if the permission is not forwarded to OTRS. I checked and except for 8 files all are uploaded before that date. 4 files are uploaded on January 5, 2007 and the remaining 4 files are uploaded in July 2007 to January 2009. But the files all refer back to the permission from before January 2007 so I think it is not a big problem.

If you think we could also delete the 8 "new" files and only keep the "old" files.

I suggest we do like with {{Japan map}} and fix {{草花写真館}} and change one file and add {{information}} and once it is done I change all the files with my bot. Would you like to help suggest how to make the template? We also need a template for Commons. Do you have an idea for a good name? "Flower Photo Studio"?

  • I made this suggestion for a template for Commons.
There is almost no clue on how the author intends to represent the site name in English, other than the domain name kusabanaph (kusabana = 草花 = flowering plant). Something like "Kusabana Photo Studio" is probably the closest guess.
The template on Commons needs to contain Grandfathered old file + Copyrighted free use + the details provided by User:miya; the template on jawiki can skip Grandfathered old file. From the diffs provided by User:miya, the permission was obtained on the BBS of the site (URL: http://kusabana.bbs.fc2.com/ but no longer accessible).
Separately - I know the chance is slim but still we better try asking in User talk:たね.--ネイ会話2020年10月15日 (木) 15:21 (UTC)
Thank you! I changed the version on Commons. I hope it is better. You are welcome to help change the template. I will also ask in User talk:たね.
I have edited c:File:W suika4061.jpg and created c:Template:Kusabana Photo Studio. You are welcome to fix template and file description. I will try to locate the files that have been moved to Commons and add them to c:Category:Files from Kusabana Photo Studio.

「Template:User extended confirmed」

Template‐ノート:User wikipedia/Administratorも拝見しました。

Status in preparing files for Commons

Hello /

We have been working on many files and templates to prepare the files for Commons. As I see it all the templates have been fixed. The open issue is that we wait for a few users to reply on my requests.

So now we just need to move files to Commons and to delete the local files.

Do you see/remember any other open issues?

We need to confirm whether {{SpaceShuttle}} and {{Landsat}} really allow free use. Separately there are several templates (e.g. {{鳥類分類図画像情報}}, {{都道府県内行政区分地図情報}}) that are designed to be used by one user only and I am planning to suggest removing them as redundant to {{Information}}.--ネイ会話2020年11月22日 (日) 17:10 (UTC)
About {{SpaceShuttle}} and {{Landsat}} then I think that all the files have been moved to Commons. If you delete the local files then the templates can be deleted. The question about if the files are free should then be discussed on Commons.
About the templates like {{鳥類分類図画像情報}} then I have been trying to convert them to {{Information}}. I think we can just move the files to Commons and then the problem will be fixed. That is if the files are usable. If not perhaps they should just be deleted?
The former: You are right - they do not fall into a case where the files are free in Japan but not in US, so if they should be deleted in Commons then they should also be deleted in jawiki.
The latter: We better disuse them after a discussion (albeit nominal - my gut feeling is no one really cares about those templates). The templates are created by that user and have the usual license templates embedded, so the files do not appear to have copyright issue.--ネイ会話2020年11月23日 (月) 17:29 (UTC)
Appending a full list of templates for the latter:
--ネイ会話2020年11月23日 (月) 17:52 (UTC)
Lincun has not made any edits since 2011 so I think it is up to us to do something. I suggest that we move/delete the files so the template will be unused. Then we can suggest to delete it.
I suggest we take the templates one by one. Which template would you like to start with?
For example if you go to ファイル:Illuminativemap12000.svg and click Export to Wikimedia Commons then you can see how the result will be. If you think it looks okay then it should be easy to move all the files that uses Template:Illuminativemapinformation.
Best to start with Template:市町村地図画像情報(Lincun) since I already started a discussion to deprecate it. I tried with the above file and think that we do not really need a c:Template:Japan municipality illuminative by Lincun as it is fully replaceable by {{Information}}+license templates.--ネイ会話2020年11月23日 (月) 18:07 (UTC)
Changing my mind - I combined the deprecation discussion of all 7 templates to the same thread so hopefully things can move faster. If there are no objections, then we can start replacing the templates with {{Information}} next week.
The reason I made c:Template:Japan municipality illuminative by Lincun is because it is a source license. A bit like c:Template:Japan map. If we do not need it we can always delete it on Commons. Apart from the template being not-needed do you think all the information looks correct?

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── It turns out that some files like ファイル:Map of Prefecture 08 茨城県.svg can't be moved to Commons for security reasons. So there are 3 options: 1) Convert and upload manually to Commons, 2) Just let it be on ja.wiki or 3) Delete it.

Security reasons??? I can guess that something in the SVG files probably caused that, but if we have the details then possibly they can be fixed by uploading another version?
Separately, one more template to be resolved: {{Attribution}}. There is currently no consensus to allow its usage on jawiki. Although it looks reasonable to start a discussion to allow its usage, we better move the three files currently using the template to Commons first, to avoid any complications.--ネイ会話2020年11月24日 (火) 05:08 (UTC)
The content of c:Template:Japan municipality illuminative by Lincun looks fine; we are missing a c:Template:Japan map/doc but it is probably not of high priority.
Yes click https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ja/f/fe/Map_of_Prefecture_08_%E8%8C%A8%E5%9F%8E%E7%9C%8C.svg and let your mouse scroll over the map and you can see what the file does... It highlights parts of the map.
Okay then we add Attribution to the list and move the files to Commons if possible.
There are 3 files using attribution template and I do not think the terms on the website makes it possible for Wikipedia or Commons to use the files. It should be possible to find free files on Commons to replace the photos.
Many of the files are allready on Commons. 24000.svg. For files like that we need someone to check if all info has been transferred correctly to Commons (both text and old versions of files). If not it can be fixed by clicking the links in the NowCommons template. Once fixed/OK an admin can delete the file on ja.wiki.
Other files are on Commons in a different version. 01202.svg. For files like that someone need to chec and decide what to do. Should ja.wiki use the version on Commons or the version on ja.wiki.
If the general answer is to use the version on ja.wiki then it would be possible to fix a lot with a bot. Then we should convert the template to {{information}}. Change the {{NowCommons}} to a "|other_versions = [[File:Name-on-Commons.svg|thumb|left]]" and then move the file to Commons with FileImporter.
But I think it would be a help if admins could help clean up the files that have a {{NowCommons}}. There are more than 14k files.
@MGA73: Apologies for late reply:
  1. Files using {{Attribution}}: I raised Wikipedia:削除依頼/ぱくたその素材を使用したファイル.
  2. Files already on Commons: WP:CSD#ファイル1-5 requires the author, upload time and license information to be included correctly in the first revision of the file page on Commons. When this is not the case (e.g. upload time of File:Map of Mie Prefecture Ja.svg is incorrect in the first revision), is there a way to fix it and remove the file from jawiki?--ネイ会話2020年12月5日 (土) 15:34 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── There are 2 links in {{NowCommons}}:

  • If you want to move old versions to Commons click this link.
  • If you want to make a new upload log on Commons click link 1 or click link 2 (for 2: remove the mark in "Directly transfer file to Commons" and click the blue button)

They can be used to fix the information. The first one can be used to move old versions of the file from Japanese Wikipedia to Commons. The second one can be used to make a log showing the information about the uploaded versions.

There are many files uploaded to Commons. Perhaps the user that made 利用者:SeitenBot2 can think of any way to have a bot check and fix the information on Commons.

They do not change the first revision of the file page though? My guess is such fix requires a c:Commons:CSD#G6+re-import from jawiki, and my first try of this method at c:Commons:Deletion requests/File:JimiHendrix T.JPG is still in discussion.--ネイ会話2020年12月5日 (土) 17:39 (UTC)
No that is correct. You can't change old versions of the file page. I do not thinkt that you have to change the first version. The important is to make sure that the information is on the current version. If you delete the file and import it then you will remove changes made by other users after the file was uploaded to Commons.
Then, we cannot SD such files in jawiki unless the policy on jawiki is changed. If we can import only the first revision and keep the later changes (kind of like a manual history merging), then the files can be easily SD-ed. Or, if there is any consensus that having the author/original upload log/license info in the latest revision is good enough, then we can point to that and say the policy on jawiki is unnecessarily strict.--ネイ会話2020年12月5日 (土) 18:38 (UTC)
In that case I suggest that we (you) make a proposal to change the Japanese policy. If it succed then we can just add the original upload log. If not then we have to delete the file on Commons, make a new transfer and then merge the history on Commons. Adding the upload log will take a few seconds. The history merge will take more than a minute.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I can now delete files. I have a few questions:

  1. Do you think it would be okay to delete files during transfer like I did with this file?
  2. As I understand it it is okay to delete files if they are moved with FileImporter or with CommonsHelper and an original upload log and correct author was added at the first revision of the file page on Commons?
  3. Can we can delete files that was transferred in a bad way if we fix information on Commons?

  1. Usually it is better not to touch on pages you have touched (so as to have a second check by another person); in this case you moved the file with FileImporter so probably we can just let SeitenBot2 do the job. I won't bother to undelete the file though, for obvious reasons.
  2. Yes. The policy, to be exact, is the original upload log, author and license were included at the first revision, and remaining descriptions included in the latest revision. Moving with FileImporter guarantees all of these so they could be deleted with a bot.
  3. Under current policy in jawiki, if a revision merge is done then yes; if the information is simply added in the latest revision then no. The policy currently assumes that badly transferred files violate GFDL and are not fixed by adding the info in the latest revision (do not take this as a comment on whether the policy is correct or not).--ネイ会話2020年12月14日 (月) 01:25 (UTC)
  1. Okay I will let the bot delete the files I move.
  2. Great then I will delete those. Most files moved with FileImporter are deleted with the bot unless any changes are made after the transfer.
  3. Okay then we have to wait for policy to be changed.
I tried to delete the broken version of a few files in Category:FileImporter_error so that I could move the file to Commons. But it did not work. Perhaps you could have a look and see if you can do anything about the files in that category.
Tried and failed. Perhaps you can report this to phab:T244567.--ネイ会話2020年12月14日 (月) 09:06 (UTC)
I mentioned it there. Lets hope someone can fix it.
Regarding bad transfers, the discussion on Commons VP seems inconclusive. It is clear that Commons does not delete early versions currently, but there is no clear cut conclusion on whether there is still a violation after fixing in later revisions. Meanwhile I am trying to collect more information on past discussions in jawiki (at Wikipedia:利用案内#履歴補遺が行われても版指定削除が必要な理由). Regardless, I have started a discussion at Wikipedia‐ノート:即時削除の方針 to see if we can remove the restriction partially.--ネイ会話2020年12月15日 (火) 12:40 (UTC)
Thank you. Lets hear what Japanese Community think. I can delete the files on Commons and retransfer but it will take a lot of time. And since there are probably thousands of files from other wikis with the same problem it will only make a little difference. What does ja.wiki do if I upload a file as GFDL and do not specify a source/author? And what if I add it a few days later? When I move files to Commons I check the info on the latest revision. I have not checked if the first revision was okay. I assume that will be the same problem.
If you upload a file as GFDL and do not specify a source/author, {{No source}} will be added via {{nsd}}. If you add it a few days later, then you can remove {{No source}} and everything is resolved. The difference is mainly that most of the GFDL files are {{self}} (uploaded by author) and therefore having no source at the beginning does not violate GFDL. If it is not {{self}}, then my opinion (i.e. not a conclusion per discussion) is that it is the same GFDL violation as bad transfers.--ネイ会話2020年12月15日 (火) 15:08 (UTC)

Hello again! You mentionened above that it was best not to delete files using FileImporter. I noticed you moved and deleted a few files today. It is much easier to delete during transfer because otherwise we have to add NowCommons and a speedy deletion manually. Do you think I can also delete during tranfer?

Yes - when I made the above statement, what I had in mind was "you transferring a file to Commons, then click delete on jawiki". I think this should be avoided, while using the delete function provided by FileImporter is fine. For example, FileImporter failed to delete File:不動産登記準則52号様式.PNG when I transferred it to Commons, so I added SD template instead of manually deleting it on jawiki.--ネイ会話2021年1月11日 (月) 16:49 (UTC)
Great. I think deleting files using FileImporter is okay but I agree that it is a good idea to let an other user delete if something goes wrong or if file is not moved with FileImporter.

@MGA73: While we have not figured out how to deal with several templates created by Lincun, I discovered three more (also by the same user) that were not included in the previous discussion because they were not included in the license template category:

I have not tried moving the files using these templates to Commons. If it works then it would be great; otherwise we might need to find a way to edit the SVGs. Deprecation of these templates seem obvious though.

Hi! I see that there was no arguments against your suggestion. So now we just need to decide what to do and we can start with the first template. So what to do with the 47 files that uses this template? They can't be moved to Commons as they are because there is some security filter that block it. So I think we have to chose one of the 3 options below:

1) I do not think the files are in use so one solution is to nominate them for deletion and tell that they are not allowed on Commons for security reasons. If the files are deleted then the problem is solved.

2) If someone want to save the files one option is to download them and fix the files and then upload them manually to Commons. Once that is done the versions on Japanese Wikipedia can be deleted.

3) The last option is to change the template to {{information}} and just let the files be on Japanese Wikipedia forever.

Once you have decided we can perhaps use the same solution for some of the other templates.

I think we can change the template to {{Information}} first. As we know from past experience, nomination for deletion takes time and the current usage blocks deletion/full deprecation of the template.--ネイ会話2020年12月2日 (水) 01:27 (UTC)
I allready changed the template almost 2 months ago and it was only there in the permission field so it was easy to check if the template was converted correctly. I have now removed the template. So the files and the template can be nominated for deletion.
Actually I still prefer to fix the files then upload to Commons - need some studying to see what is wrong though.
Meanwhile, I marked {{Illuminativemapinformation}} as fully deprecated. The remaining templates can be deprecated similarly once current usages are all removed.--ネイ会話2020年12月5日 (土) 15:36 (UTC)
Great! Some of the other templates are widely used. I think 1.000 of the files are allready on Commons so the trick is to check that the transfer is correct and if yes delete the local file. It will take some time but that way we are sure the transfers are good.

I just noticed that the files using this template are deleted. So as I see it there is nothing more I can do with this template. Let me know if you think otherwise.

Agreed. I might start a discussion to enable this template on jawiki, but not now. MediaWiki‐ノート:Licenses comes before that.--ネイ会話2020年12月14日 (月) 14:11 (UTC)
Great!

This template is used by files that can't be moved to Commons. So the question here is the same as above. Have you found a solution? If not I can probably just remove the template from the files.

When SeitenBot2 deletes files next time the template should be unused. And if not you may have to assiste the deletion because I'm involved in moving the files :-) --MGA73会話2020年12月19日 (土) 10:20 (UTC)

This template is used on about 168 file pages. It seems that the file names are called via a template. But if there are redirects on Commons then it should still work even if the template call the old file name.

What about files like ファイル:行政区位置図 27147.svg. It have been uploaded to Commons as File:Location of Mihara ward Sakai city Osaka prefecture Japan.svg and someone uploaded a new version of the file on Commons. Do you think it would be okay to use the version on Commons? If yes then we can delete the local version.

Please revert it as it appears to be disruptive editing. The new version is clearly of incorrect scale (compare with the map scale on 美原区).--ネイ会話2020年12月24日 (木) 05:31 (UTC)
Yes the scale was clearly different so I reverted. But what if the only change was the color? Do you think it would be okay then?
Either check the color contrast (c.f. WP:COLOR and en:WP:COLOR), or if it is uploaded by the same person, then just revert all of them - no need to waste time figuring out which is better.--ネイ会話2020年12月28日 (月) 06:12 (UTC)

Hi! This category is empty and the matching template Template:草花写真館 is no longer in use. Can it be deleted?

Hello - I started a discussion at Template‐ノート:草花写真館 to fully deprecate the template, and if possible, delete both the template and the category.--ネイ会話2020年12月24日 (木) 05:24 (UTC)

Hi! Next time bot delete files then the category should be empty except for 1 file. I suggest to delete that file. After that the category and template can be depreciated. If you think the remaining file is useful you can just move it to Commons.

Nah, I won't risk giving a chance to the inclusionists on jawiki and rendering it impossible to deprecate the template/category. Moved the file to Commons and deleted the file on jawiki (using FileImporter).--ネイ会話2021年1月10日 (日) 14:59 (UTC)
Great! I forgot to remove the files from the list of files bot won't delete. I have removed them now but the bot is taking a brak. Lazy bot! Well perhaps tomorrow then. If not you can always delete them manually. I noticed Penn Station deleted a lot of files. So cleaning up seems to be active again :) --MGA73会話2021年1月10日 (日) 20:26 (UTC)
The category is now empty, so I started a discussion at Template‐ノート:Landsat.--ネイ会話2021年1月11日 (月) 09:16 (UTC)

Hi! What to do with the 2 photos in this category? One is a statue end the other seems to be sourced to a deleted file.

Statue: added {{nfpa}} - it is not used in articles, and seems unlikely to be used since we already have File:渋谷のハチ公像.jpg.
Sourced to a deleted file: Seems the links were not fixed when the source file was deleted locally (the file name on Commons is "Logo musique.JPG" instead of "Logo musique.jpg"). Fixed, moved to Commons and deleted locally.
Thank you! Lets see if the statue is deleted or if it survive :-) --MGA73会話2021年1月26日 (火) 07:23 (UTC)

Hi! This template is no longer used.

Thank you! Started a discussion to deprecate it.
Awesome! I thought they were all gone but I missed this one.

Perhaps this one can be deprecated too ?
