- Wikidata for Firefox is a browser extension that displays Wikidata items while browsing the web, adds missing IDs and extracts information from websites to Wikidata.

- Entity Explosion, the browser add-on for Chrome is now also available for Firefox. When the user visits a web page, it displays data from Wikidata, about the subject of that page.
- WMF will be performing data center maintenance operations by switching all traffic to the secondary data centre on Tuesday, September 1st 2020. You will be able to read, but not edit, all wikis for up to an hour from 14:00 UTC
- The Wikidata community now has a channel on the newly-established Wikimedia Chat service.

Reply tool

The Reply tool has been available as a Beta Feature at the Arabic, Dutch, French and Hungarian Wikipedias since 31 March 2020. The first analysis showed positive results.

More than 300 editors used the Reply tool at these four Wikipedias. They posted more than 7,400 replies during the study period.
Of the people who posted a comment with the Reply tool, about 70% of them used the tool multiple times. About 60% of them used it on multiple days.
Comments from Wikipedia editors are positive. One said, أعتقد أن الأداة تقدم فائدة ملحوظة؛ فهي تختصر الوقت لتقديم رد بدلًا من التنقل بالفأرة إلى وصلة تعديل القسم أو الصفحة، التي تكون بعيدة عن التعليق الأخير في الغالب، ويصل المساهم لصندوق التعديل بسرعة باستخدام الأداة. ("I think the tool has a significant impact; it saves time to reply while the classic way is to move with a mouse to the Edit link to edit the section or the page which is generally far away from the comment. And the user reaches to the edit box so quickly to use the Reply tool.")[1]

The Editing team released the Reply tool as a Beta Feature at eight other Wikipedias in early August. Those Wikipedias are in the Chinese, Czech, Georgian, Serbian, Sorani Kurdish, Swedish, Catalan, and Korean languages. If you would like to use the Reply tool at your wiki, please tell User talk:Whatamidoing (WMF).

The Reply tool is still in active development. Per request from the Dutch Wikipedia and other editors, you will be able to customize the edit summary. (The default edit summary is "Reply".) A "ping" feature is available in the Reply tool's visual editing mode. This feature searches for usernames. Per request from the Arabic Wikipedia, each wiki will be able to set its own preferred symbol for pinging editors. Per request from editors at the Japanese and Hungarian Wikipedias, each wiki can define a preferred signature prefix in the page MediaWiki:Discussiontools-signature-prefix. For example, some languages omit spaces before signatures. Other communities want to add a dash or a non-breaking space.

New requirements for user signatures

The new requirements for custom user signatures began on 6 July 2020. If you try to create a custom signature that does not meet the requirements, you will get an error message.
Existing custom signatures that do not meet the new requirements will be unaffected temporarily. Eventually, all custom signatures will need to meet the new requirements. You can check your signature and see lists of active editors whose custom signatures need to be corrected. Volunteers have been contacting editors who need to change their custom signatures. If you need to change your custom signature, then please read the help page.

Margerie Glacier is a 21 mi (34 km) long tidewater glacier in Glacier Bay, Alaska, United States within the boundaries of Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. The glacier begins on the southern slopes of Mount Root, elevation 12,860 feet (3,920 m), on the Alaska–Canada border flowing southeast down the valley, then turning to the northeast toward its terminus in Tarr Inlet. Margerie Glacier is one of the most active and frequently-visited glaciers in Glacier Bay, which was declared a National Monument in 1925, a National Park and Preserve in 1980, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve in 1986 and a World Heritage Site in 1992.

ガイダンスの成功

6月15日に「ガイダンス」機能を導入しました。

この機能はヘルプパネルを使用してお勧めの編集を選択した後に何をするのかを説明します。例えば、新規参加者が「校正 (copyedit)」のタスクを選択したとき、ガイダンスはどのように誤りを見つけるのかを案内します。文章を書き換える方法の例を見ることがきます。この機能をtest.wikipedia.orgで試すことができます。まず初めに、あなたの個人設定からホームページとヘルプパネルを有効にします。

「ガイダンス」を開始して以来、収集したデータは良い結果を示しています（図を参照）。今ではガイダンスが導入される前よりも多くの利用者がお勧めの編集を完了しています。

We welcome the Growth feature.

I'm not active on the Japanese Wikipedia. So I can't help you much, Sorry. All I can say is that the Japanese Wikipedia has a lot of local settings, so when you implement the feature, you need to adapt it to the local settings. --Tmv（会話|投稿記録） 2020年9月16日 (水) 07:23 (UTC)[返信]

The skeleton was found near mammoth remains and thought to be at least 10,000 years old. It was fancifully hailed by Time magazine as the oldest Mexican soldier. The skeleton was found lying face down with the arms under the chest and the legs drawn up to the stomach. The body most likely sunk into the mud surrounding it, leaving the shoulder, back, and hips exposed, which might explain why those elements are missing. It is possible that the body was originally deposited in the lake.

最近の更新

管理者は削除された特定版の差分を Special:AbuseLogで参照できるようになりました。これにはSpecial:Undeleteのインターフェースを利用します。 [16]
編集者は自動的に利用者グループに分類されます。たとえば閾値を超える回数と期間に達すると自動承認された利用者に追加されます。不正行為のフィルターには利用者に自動的に付与されるはずの利用者権限を、一定期間、遅らせる働きがあります。あるいはまた、既得の権限を除去することもできます。ウィキではそれぞれこの期間の変更を依頼できるようになりました。現状の既定は5日間です。 [17]

問題点

昨年、新規の変更により不正行為フィルタの一部が実行されなくなりました。特定の処理について該当しない変数を入力した場合に、フィルタが実行不能になっていました。現在では修正済みです。 [18]

今週の更新

新しいバージョンのMediaWikiソフトウェアが稼働します。テストウィキとMediaWiki.orgは9月29日に、ウィキペディア以外のプロジェクトと一部のウィキペディアは9月30日に、その他のウィキには10月1日に展開されます（工程表はこちら）。

今後の予定

トークページもしくは変更履歴ページでは、他言語版への言語リンクが表示されません。あるいはまた記事ページの編集中にも、表示できません。その対策として、たとえば変更履歴ページのリンク先を他言語の同種のページにするかそれとも記事ページか未定です。Phabricatorで討議に参加してください。
リンクの色が変わる予定です。これは記事の部分とリンク部分の違いを、もっと明確に示すためです。詳細はPhabricator に記述してあります。
利用者は個人設定で、通知の種類別にウェブ上もしくはメールで受け取るように指定ができます。今週末にはAppsという新規項目が選択肢に追加される予定です。これはAndroid および iOS のウィキペディア・アプリでプッシュ通知の受信を採用する選択肢ができたことを反映するためです。テストウィキで個人設定を表示できます。目標として、プッシュ通知の採用は Android 版アプリで10月、 iOS 版は来年2021年初頭を見込んでいます。 [19]
まもなくウォッチリストに期限付きでページを追加できるようになります。たとえば特定のページをごく短期的にウォッチしたいけれど、ずっとウォッチリストに載せたくない場合に役立ちます。現状ではmediawiki.org で有効で、他のウィキにも追って展開の予定です。詳細の閲読と他のウィキへの展開の時期をそれぞれご確認ください。

Development
- First pieces of the Query Builder are coming together and we are working towards making it generate the first dumb query

- Got some first internal feedback for the REST API specification draft. We'll publish it for feedback in the next days.
- Fixing an issue with certain language codes no longer being available (phab:T264294)
- Working on making sure blocked bots don't waste Item IDs when trying to create new Items (phab:T232620)

新ツールの導入により、どのウィキをホームとして活動する利用者が Meta の議論に参加しているか分かるようになりました。多くのウィキに影響を与える議論で、どのコミュニティが未参加なのか分かるようになります。
ファイルをアップロードした利用者やページの言語を変更した利用者に対して感謝を示せるようになりました。 [20]

問題点

先週展開した MediaWiki に不具合が多かったため、更新を差し戻しました。これに伴い先週、行われるはずだった更新の適用が遅れています。 [21]
すべての利用者が強制的にログアウトされました。ある利用者が他人名義でログインしていると報告したためです。現在は修正済みです。 [22]
多くのページでJavaScriptのエラーが発生しています。このエラーに関する詳細と、エラーが発生しているユーザースクリプトの一覧をそれぞれ参照できます。

今週の更新

新しいバージョンのMediaWikiソフトウェアが稼働します。テストウィキとMediaWiki.orgは10月6日に、ウィキペディア以外のプロジェクトと一部のウィキペディアは10月7日に、その他のウィキには10月8日に展開されます（工程表はこちら）。
リンクの直後にある文字列はリンクの一部として表示されます。例えば[[Child]]renというリンクは単語全体をリンクの文字列として扱います。アラビア語版ウィキペディアの場合は単語の前後にある文字列をリンクとして扱うようになります。従来は単語の語頭にある数字と非英字のUnicode文字のみがリンクとして扱われていました。現在はラテン文字とアラビア文字をリンクの一部として扱っています。 [23]
