RENOVA, Inc. is a company headquartered in Chuo, Tokyo that develops and operates renewable energy power generation facilities.

Overview

The company develops and operates renewable energy power plants such as solar, biomass, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power. Since its founding in May 2000, it has consistently expanded its business in the environmental and energy sectors. In 2012, it fully entered the renewable energy business. Additionally, in 2022, it established the GX (Green Transformation) Headquarters to promote the development of new green businesses that contribute to decarbonization, such as small-scale distributed solar power, battery storage projects, and onshore wind power in Japan. The company has also started new ventures in the United States, beginning with an investment in Pathway Power Holdings. [1]

The publicly announced projects that are operational, under construction, or in development span 28 locations nationwide, with a total power generation capacity of 1.6 gigawatts (1,600 MW). Additionally, the company has established offices in five locations overseas—Singapore, South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia—further intensifying its international business development.

Origin of the Company Name

The name “RENOVA” is derived from the Latin word for “renew” (Renovarent). It also embodies the desire to be a new star (Nova) leading the realization of a renewable society.

  • May, 2000: Recycle One Co., Ltd. was established in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo.
  • July, 2001: Headquarters moved to Sakuragaokacho, Shibuya, Tokyo.
  • May, 2006 Ecos Factory Co., Ltd. and Green Loop Co., Ltd. were established as affiliated companies.
  • 2008
    • January: Recycling plants of Ecos Factory Co., Ltd. and Green Loop Co., Ltd. began operations.
    • June: Headquarters moved to Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
  • October, 2012: Suigo Itako Solar Co., Ltd., Futtsu Solar Co., Ltd., Kikugawa Horinochi Valley Solar Co., Ltd., and Kikugawa Ishiyama Solar Co., Ltd. were established as affiliated companies.
  • December, 2013: Company name changed to RENOVA, Inc.
  • 2014
    • January: Headquarters moved to Otemachi, Chiyoda, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
    • February: Suigo Itako Solar Power Plant began operations.

  • February, 2017: Listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Mothers market.
  • 2018
    • February: Changed market to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
    • October: Headquarters moved to Kyobashi, Chuo,Tokyo.
  • 2019
    • March: Yokkaichi Solar Power Plant began operations.
    • May: Nasukarasuyama Solar Power Plant began operations.
    • July: Karumai West Solar Power Plant began operations.
    • December: Karumai East Solar Power Plant began operations.
  • May, 2020: Decided to participate in the Quang Tri Onshore Wind Power Project in Vietnam. [2]

    • June: Kanda Biomass Power Plant began operations.
    • October: Karumai Sonbo Solar Power Plant began operations.
    • October: Quang Tri Onshore Wind Power Project began operations.
  • 2022
    • April: Established the GX (Green Transformation) Headquarters.
    • August: Signed the first Non-FIT solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.
  • 2023
    • March: Minami Aso Yunotani Geothermal Power Plant began operations.
    • May: Signed the first virtual PPA with Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.
    • June: Hitoyoshi Solar Power Plant began operations.
    • August: Established a joint venture with Idemitsu Kosan, Nagase & Co., and SMFL Mirai Partners to start the first grid-scale battery storage project.
    • November: Sendai Gamo Biomass Power Plant began operations.
    • December: Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant began operations.
  • 2024
    • January: Decided to invest in Pathway Power Holdings LLC, headquartered in San Diego, Calfornia, USA.
    • March: Ishinomaki Hibari Field Biomass Power Plant began operations.
    • April: Signed a capital and business alliance agreement with Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd.
    • September: “Gamo Nakano Nostalgia Hall” within the Sendai Gamou Biomass Power Plant was registered as a “Disaster Legacy Facility”.
