Juro Aoki 青木十良July 12, 1915 - September 8, 2014 [1] was a Japanese cellist.

His family was an importer and trader of chemicals. He began cello lessons at age 15 with a German merchant who was a student of Julius Klengel.[2]

He started his performance activities before the World War II, and after the war, he performed all over the country as an exclusive artist for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation). He devoted himself to teaching cello and chamber music in music schools including Toho Gakuen School of Music, where he coached many outstanding musicians[3]. He also had a Japanese premiere performance of Prokofiev's Cello Sonata[4].

He recorded Bach's "Suites for Unaccompanied Cello" when he was over 80 years old, and continued to perform actively even after he turned 90. His extraordinarily long and inspiring career was captured in the documentary film " To vibrate the strings with elegance - Juro Aoki, 96 years old violoncellist " (2012)[5].

On September 8, 2014, he died of pneumonia.
