The task of PALZ9000 is to fetch Two-line elements (orbital trajectory information) from the Heavens-Above website and add it to a template. For each space station, editors can transclude parts of it into the article. There are no copyright issues for the Heavens-Above website according to the owner, Chris Peat, whom I initially contacted about images for the article about that website, Heavens-Above.
The height of a space station in orbit varies over time due to the Earth's atmosphere. The station is boosted in orbit by Russian and sometimes European robot cargoships, or it's own engines. People can read the current height of the station from the article, stirring interest in the subject.
- The template is updates 2 times each day, approximately.
- This work is done fully automatically. To stop the article from updating, any editor can remove the transclusion from the article at any time without the need to contact the bot operator.
- Additional satellites can be added to the robot's template upon request.
- Today, the software for this task is written in Python, the software was written by User:ZxxZxxZ, and minor modifications by Penyulap.
