デイム・ダイアン・コイル（Dame Diane Coyle、 DBE FAcSS、1961年2月生まれ）は英国の経済学者。 2018年3月よりケンブリッジ大学ベネット公共政策教授、ベネット研究所共同所長[2]。

経済学者としてのキャリアの初期は、1993年から2001年までインディペンデント紙の経済学編集長を務めるなど、ジャーナリズムの世界で実績を積んだ。2001年から2009年まで英国競争委員会（英語版）の委員、2014年から2018年までマンチェスター大学経済学部教授。 2011年から2016年までBBCトラスト（英語版）の副会長を務めた。

コイルは経済学について9冊の著作がある。

生い立ち

イングランドのベリーで生まれ[3][4]、ベリーグラマースクールに通った[4]。オックスフォード大学のブレーズノーズ・カレッジで哲学、政治学、経済学を学んだ後、ハーバード大学で経済学の修士号と博士号を取得し、1985年に卒業[5]。学位論文のタイトルは『雇用の動態（賃金、契約、生産性、景気循環）』であった[6][7]。

経歴

コイルは1985年から1986年まで英国財務省のエコノミストを務め、その後1993年から2001年までインベスターズ・クロニクル（英語版）紙の欧州担当編集者、インディペンデント紙の経済担当編集者を務めた。

彼女は経済学のさまざまな側面について人々を教育することに焦点を当てた一連の本を書いている。 彼女の最初の著書『The Weightless World』（1997年）は、ラディカル・センター（英語版）の創設に貢献したものだと語っている[8]。 もう一冊は、"十分さ "と持続可能性の概念を探求したものだ[9]。

また、2001年から2009年まで英国競争委員会委員[2][10]、王立経済学会会員、2009年から2014年まで英国国境局の移民諮問委員会委員[5][11]、王立芸術協会フェローを務めた[2]。

コイルは以前、BBCラジオ4の司会者を務めたことがあり[3]、 2006年11月から2015年4月までBBCトラストの委員でもあった[12][13][14]。2011年4月7日、英国女王はコイルが英国放送協会を統括するBBCトラストの副会長に任命されることを承認した[15]。また、2017年からProject Syndicateに定期的に寄稿している。

コイルはBBCの報道を称賛し、「私はBBCを常に評価してきた。 その公平性と包括的な報道は、その重要な市民的役割を支えている」[16] 。しかし、2009年、彼女はBBCの番組を批判し、「視聴者はBBCや英国の他の主要テレビ局が提供する番組に対して、ますます冷笑的になり、失望している」と述べた。「否定的なコメントのなかには、バラエティに欠ける、石鹸やコスチュームドラマが多すぎる......古いシリーズが復活することへの失望、焼き直しや古いアイデアのパクリに対する皮肉などがある」[17]。

2014年から2018年までマンチェスター大学経済学部教授を務めた[18]。

2018年3月よりケンブリッジ大学のベネット公共政策教授に就任し、ベネット研究所を共同運営している[2]。コイルは、2021年の経済学専門職の多様性の欠如を批判し、ユニバーサル・ベーシック・インカムという考え方にも批判的である[19]。

コイルは、大企業や国際機関向けの経済コンサルタント会社で、新技術とグローバリゼーションを専門とするエンライトメント・エコノミクス[20]のマネージング・ディレクターである。 EDFエナジーのステークホルダー諮問委員会のメンバーでもある[21]。

インディゴ賞を受賞したGDP測定の根本的な置き換えに関するエッセイに続き、コイルは現在、ケンブリッジ大学のベネット公共政策研究所で、レターワン（英語版）の資金提供を受けた「6つの資本」研究プロジェクトを率いている。

私生活

元BBCニュースのテクノロジー特派員ローリー・セラン＝ジョーンズ（Rory Cellan-Jones）と結婚。 夫妻には2人の息子がおり、ロンドンのウェスト・イーリング（West Ealing）に住んでいる[22][23]。

受賞・受章・栄典

コイルは経済学への貢献が認められ、2009年の新年栄誉賞で大英帝国勲章オフィサー章（OBE）[24][25]、2018年には大英帝国勲章コマンダー章（CBE）を受章した[26]。2023年の誕生日栄誉賞では大英帝国勲章デイムコマンダー（DBE）を受賞した。

彼女はBBCの「2013年の女性100人」に選ばれた[27]。

2016年、社会科学アカデミーのフェロー（FAcSS）に選出された[28]。

2017年、コイルとベンジャミン・ミトラ＝カーン（英語版）は、経済がデジタルと情報の時代へとさらに移行する中で、経済測定としてのGDPを見直すための最も優れた仮説を提出したとして、共同受賞者のジョナサン・ハスケル（英語版）経済学教授とともに、第1回インディゴ賞（英語版）を受賞した。
