ジョン・スミス (植物学者)

ジョン・スミス（John Smith、1798年 – 1888年）はイギリスの植物学である。王立植物園（キューガーデン）の最初の学芸員を務めた。

1822年、植物園で温室の保温の仕事を行うストーブ・ボーイとして雇われた。植物園長のウィリアム・ジャクソン・フッカー、ジョセフ・ダルトン・フッカーとともに、ヴィクトリア女王によって王立植物園が王室のプライベート・ガーデンから公共植物園に変更された時代を見守り、植物園が忘れ去られることを防いだ。19世紀の後半に、植物園への予算の優先度が下がり、縮小されることからも防いだ。1841年に学芸員となり1864年まで学芸員を務めた。シダ類に強い関心を持ち、入園時に40種であったシダの種類を1,084種まで増やした。
