Kana no Hikari [Light of kana].
No. 1.
Left column
Kana no Hikari [Light of Kana]! For what purpose you are created?
It was created to demonstrate precious light of kana to the world. It was created to direct eyes of people, who are blind by kanji [Chinese characters], toward kana characters.
Kana were born in our country, and brought up by people of our country. We should not forget those precious characters gifted by our ancestors. Kana characters are so worthy that we can be proud of them. Their worthiness is not a color painted on their surface, but a light emitted from their inside. If we improve their typefaces and their writing system, their value will increase more. If people continuously watch this point, kana will be brought back to life from the oppression by kanji [Chinese characters], their light will be brighter, they will cast a light on elegant native words grown in our folk, they will improve efficiency of our society, and they will advance our culture.
Kana no Hikari! Its mission is quite important. The editor asks people's assistance and kindness for our culture and our nation's prosperity.

Thing borrowed
Japanese people are now shouldering a heavy burden and competing with people around the world.
Being all of a sweat, they are running, but they cannot run as they wish, because of the burden.
Japanese people regard the burden as a treasure and do not try to throw it away when they might unload it.
What is the heavy burden?
It was borrowed from China!
Being aware of the fact, why don't we return it?
