ヒュー・シートン＝ワトソン

ヒュー・シートン＝ワトソン（George Hugh Nicholas Seton-Watson, 1916年2月15日 - 1984年12月19日）は、イギリスの歴史学者・政治学者。ロシア・東欧史が専門。セトン＝ワトソンと表記されることもある。

ロンドン生まれ。1938年、オックスフォード大学卒業。第二次大戦中、イギリス外務省および軍の一員として、ユーゴスラビア、ルーマニア、エジプト、トルコで活動。戦後、オックスフォード大学を経て、1951年から1983年までロンドン大学で教鞭を執った。1981年、大英帝国勲章、1983年、エセックス大学より名誉博士号を授与。

著書Nations and statesで論じた「公定ナショナリズム（official nationalism）」という概念は、後にベネディクト・アンダーソンが『想像の共同体』で取り上げたことで広く知られるようになった。
