Texas State Preservation Board
From: http://www.tspb.state.tx.us/CVC/plan/images/Japanese_CVC.pdf
Which of these characters is the Japanese name of the Texas State Preservation Board?
- Hi, Whisper. Sorry, i can't understand what you want to ask. Second line of first page of that PDF is text "テキサス州議会議事堂保存局分課". Can this be answer? --Was a bee 2010年9月16日 (木) 00:09 (UTC)
- No, Whisper is asking although the original title in English is "Capitol visitors Center, a division of the State Preservation Board", how it becomes "議事堂観光案内センター, テキサス州議会議事堂保存局分課" ("Capitol visitors Center, Texas state capitol preservation department division"). In English, there is a common usage "a division of" or "an affiliate of", however in Japanese there is no equivalent expression. The "テキサス州議会議事堂保存局分課" is an incorrect Japanese because 分課 is not a correct usage. The correct translation may be "テキサス州保存委員会, 議事堂観光案内センター". In Japanese often the name is described from the top to the bottom like an address (Tokyo-to Chiyoda-ku Nagata-cho 1-7-1) and a name (Kan Naoto), while in English the name is described from the bottom to the top. So answer is "Texas State Preservation Board" is "テキサス州保存委員会" not in the PDF.
- Thank you very much. Let me put the request in the requested articles page.

Photo Request : The University of Kyoto
Hi, I am currently working on the French article of the University of Kyoto for one of our wikicontest, but they are only a few photos about it on wikicommons. I have also checked on Flickr, but the licences are not the good ones. So if someone in Kyoto could go to the main campus (or a satellite one: Uji...) and take more pictures of it (buildings, library, museum, students facilities...), it would greatly appreciated. Feel free to answer in Japanese here or on my French profile. Thanks in advance, XIIIfromTOKYO 2010年9月15日 (水) 04:38 (UTC)
- Hi XIIIfromTOKYO. Sure, available images about Kyoto Univerisity looks very few :/ So I post your image request to 画像提供依頼[2]. I hope somebody respond it. Thank you. --Was a bee 2010年9月22日 (水) 13:38 (UTC)
Use of Gaba logo
Hello, I have posted the company logo () to the Gaba_(企業) Japanese page. It has been removed from the Gaba Japanese page and tagged for having no source/copyright information. The same logo is on the English page. I am sorry, but my Japanese skills are not good enough to put in the "fair use" rationale. The source is http://www.gaba.co.jp/ If someone could help with this I would be very thankful!
- Hi Alex MacIntosh88. Thank you for your posting :). In Japanese Wikipedia, "fair use" policy has not yet established. So in Japanese Wikipedia, using images depend on solely "fair use" is not possible, sorry. --Was a bee 2010年9月16日 (木) 01:27 (UTC)
- In my opinion, If the file will be accepted in Wikimedia Commons as commons:Template:PD-textlogo, like commons:File:Panasonic logo (Blue).svg, it would become possible to use that image in Japanese Wikipedia also. --Was a bee 2010年9月16日 (木) 01:42 (UTC)
- Hi Was a bee, thanks for your advice! I re-uploaded the file through wikimedia commons and have added it back to the Gaba article. I didn't know fair use was not okay in the Japanese wikipedia. Thanks for teaching me!
Proposal for GoogleTrans gadget
Hi there,
Sorry about the English.
I have had a GoogleTrans gadget on the enwiki for almost a year now. If you position the cursor over a word and hit the SHIFT key it will popup the google translation of that word. It is like the google toolbar translation feature except that it will also handle selected text (< 500 characters). The gadget is currently running on 10 wikis.
The help page for the gadget is at:
http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/User:Endo999/GoogleTrans
and the code is at:
http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js
There are instructions on how to port the gadget onto other wikis on the help page.
For languages that don't have spaces between words, (like Chinese and Japanese) all the Japanese between the cursor and the next space or punctuation mark will be translated. This is almost always < 500 characters.
Good luck with your wiki. Anybody who is learning Japanese by reading jawiki articles could benefit from this gadget.
- Thank you for message. I posted responce at en:User_talk:Endo999/GoogleTrans#punctuation_mark_of_Japanese for centralized discussion sake. Thanks:) --Was a bee 2010年9月22日 (水) 14:09 (UTC)
Translating en:Deekshabhoomi to Japanese
Hi, I am Shivashree from India. I've been working on a project to translate the article en:Deekshabhoomi in various languages.
Deekshabhoomi is the place in central India where about 400,000 people converted to Buddhism at a single moment on October 14, 1956. It is visited by several visitors every year, mainly from the Buddhist countries.
On October 14th, there is the 55th anniversary of the conversion ceremony. It would be a great honor for me if someone of you can please translate the article in Japanese by that time. Please let me know on my English Wikipedia talk page if you can translate it. Thanking you. With a lot of love from the land of Buddha.
- Thanks for translating the article, really thanks a lot! Unfortunately, I know no Japanese and I cannot read what you have written above nor can I read the article in Japanese. Can you please explain it in English what you have said above?
- Although in the en:Deekshabhoomi were citation neededs, the article was not so large and personally being interested in that site(and Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar), I had translated it. Please check it. ....Sorry, for my pooor Engrish. I'm not trained for English Writing.--ЧК 2010年9月27日 (月) 04:39 (UTC)
"Create a book" feature
I've been through all the help pages and did a lot of searches, but I could not find out why the "Create a book" feature is not available in Japanese Wikipedia. The script that generate PDF files seems to handle unicode encoding and Japanese characters good so there is no technical issues. If it's not possible to create a book on Wikipedia Japan, how can I do it for myself?
I need reliable website references for death dates http://en-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/Wikipedia:Database_reports/Living_people_on_EN_wiki_who_are_dead_on_other_wikis
There are whole bunches of Japanese people listed as dead in the Japanese Wiki but not in the English Wikipedia. I would like to edit the English Wiki to reflect the deaths but I can't find reliable (non blog) references or obituaries on line. I'm not sure how long Japanese newspapers keep obituaries archived, and they are not showing up on Google searches. Any help would be appreciated.
- I don't know the site which collect dates of deaths and also reliable. Though this is not easy way, how about using en:Google News Archive? Some of its search results are reliable sources. keyword "訃報" (means "death report" in Japanese) could work for your purpose. Like this. --Was a bee 2010年10月16日 (土) 18:29 (UTC)

- Hello WhisperToMe. I want to go to Guam. I made section at Wikipedia:画像提供依頼/地域#アメリカ. I think there would be most suitable place for your request in Japanese Wikipedia. By the way, Guam is not Japan? So I suppose, possibility that you can get response is low. How about to put your request at English Wikipedia? If you already did that, sorry. Thank you :) --Was a bee 2010年10月11日 (月) 09:12 (UTC)
- Thank you for making the section!
- I will also post my requests at the English Wikipedia and the Commons too :)
- Because there are so many Japanese tourists to Guam (and Guam's tourism industry mostly caters to Japan), it is crucial for someone who is posting a photo request related to Guam to post those requests on the Japanese Wikipedia - I will post some Hawaii requests as well, because Hawaii gets so many tourists from Japan.

Translation, please
I asked a questin at ノート:コミックGOTTA and got an answer - but my Japanese isn't good enough to understand what it says. Thank you.
- user:いちたか replied to you that グランドスラム sure is the complete(読切) work of 高橋よしひろ, and published in the Feburuary(the first number) and March, 2000 issue of コミックGOTTA. Your questions were about this?
Typeface on Japanese Wikipedia
Hi, I'm from Gan Wikipedia, could anyone here please tell me how to adjust the typeface on our wiki as same as yours, which is much bigger and nicer.
- Insert the following code into your MediaWiki:Vector.css.
/* enlarge font-size */
#bodyContent { font-size: 94.4%; }
- The Vector skin sets the font-size of the contents to 0.8em (80%). (Search for #bodyContent in http://gan.wikipedia.org/skins-1.5/vector/main-ltr.css ) The above code overwrites this setting to 94.4%, making it larger than the original. (For your information, the relevant discussion can be found at Wikipedia:井戸端/subj/ベクタースキンの文字サイズ.)
- Thanks a lot. I followed your instructions while nothing changed till now. In fact, we have MediaWiki:Monobook.css page, but something works no more since the "new features". Taking the page you gave me as a look, it writes: "The following code is slightly modified from monobook". So could you please tell me how to modify this page?--Symane 2010年10月19日 (火) 10:21 (UTC)
- Old skin = Monobook, New skin = Vector. Editing Vector.css should work. You don't have to edit main-ltr.css in theory, and we don't, because the settings in Mediawiki:Vector.css override main-ltr.css. (You'd have to ask the developers to change the latter, which I do not recommend.)
- I saw that, indeed, your changes to gan:MediaWiki:Vector.css did not appear as expected, so I tried purging the cache in gan-wiki by accessing your pages with "action=purge", and now I see that gan-wiki's font-size is indeed set to 94.4%. After clearing your browser cache, check your wiki again. --朝彦 2010年10月20日 (水) 02:38 (UTC) Corrected an error in filename --朝彦 2010年10月20日 (水) 04:34 (UTC)
- I'm so grateful for your help, thank you very much.
Commons:Category:Naruto and Commons:Category:One Piece
Would someone mind giving a notification to Japanese editors of Naruto (anime and manga) articles that every image on Commons:Category:Naruto and its daughter categories needs a description in Japanese?
Also an editor on the English Wikipedia expressed concerns that some images on the Commons category for Naruto may be violating copyright: en:Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Anime_and_manga#Commons_category:_Naruto
- "Actually, many of those images are not free images because they are derived from copyrighted images of the original work. Because of that, they are in violation of Common's policies. —Farix (t | c) 20:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC) "
So please help determine if the images in the category are or are not violating copyright. See also Commons:Village_pump#Naruto_images copyright concerns
As for Commons:Category:One Piece the pictures in that category need Japanese descriptions.

Help for translation
Good morning. With the help of a Japanese friend we have partly translated this page re an an international artisic literary movement (which includes several Japanese artists). Before uploading it we need your help to see if it is in the right format and to remove the mistakes. Is there a Tutor to whom to show the page for example in a sandbox ? Thanks a lot for your help--Aeron10 2010年10月26日 (火) 09:33 (UTC)
- There are no "tutors" in Wikipedia. You can just go ahead and post it, since that's the whole point of wiki -- editing together and fixing stuff as you go along. But if you're not so confident about it, just drop a message here after you've posted the article. Somebody (or I) might check the article.
- We're very grateful for your suggestions. I have posted the page of the international movement here: http://ja-two.iwiki.icu/wiki/IMMAGINE%26POESIA
- Can you please check it and remove the mistakes? Thanks in advance and greetings from Italy --Aeron10 2010年10月27日 (水) 06:26 (UTC)
- Checked and fixed some format and broken links.
